Over the next few month as part of the Scout section program they are going to be working on the World Challenge award and Global Issues.
To cover some parts of these we are going to be looking at how we can recycle and save various items going to landfill, redirecting them to projects that benefit others.We will set up boxes in the Foyer for the following so please drop any you have in.
Old spectacles and sunglasses
Please drop in your old eye glasses that are no longer needed and through lions Club international these will be sent to other countries saving sight projects. If you can also include any details of prescriptions for the glasses, that would be ideal.
Unwanted old bras
Does not matter if they are still wearable or not, these will be recycled in one of 2 ways and in doing so raise funds for Breast Cancer research. Once sent away bras that have come to the end of their wearable life will be broken down and various component recycled. If they are still in a wearable condition they are sent off to countries in which for women to have underwear is a luxury, but also gives them better respect in their communities, often helping then protect them from abuse and harm.
Pens, felt tips, marker pens, bingo dobbers, mechanical pencils, Tipex pens, pots and tapes
No wax crayons, rubbers, glue sticks or wooden pencils.
If you have any of the above items that have run out, at end of life please send them in so that they can be sent off to be recycled and raise funds for a midlands Hospice.

We’re asking all parents/carers to commit to volunteering at least 1 night every 6 months at a meeting with (or without!) their child.
This week the Cubs are doing some pioneering.

If the fire exit door is closed please follow the path and enter the Scout Hut through the door into the foyer on the other side of the building.

Please read through this update so you can ‘Be Prepared’. To earn 10 bonus Scout of the Month points this week you need to write down ‘What three activities are the Scouts doing at the next three Troop Nights’ and write it on a piece of paper together with your name and hand in the paper when you arrive at Scouts.
Haddon Scouts (Tuesday)
Panther Patrol – Navigation – Meet Mel & Stu at the entrance to 5 Ways Lakes at Wolvey between 6.45pm & 6.55pm. They do not need to wear uniforms but should wear clothing that is suitable for walking and appropriate for the weather. Please wear good footwear not ‘school’ shoes. Pick up is from outside the Village Chippy, Leicester Street, Bulkington at 9.00pm. Panther Patrol members are Finn, Emily, Delilah, Harrison, McKenzie, Maisie & Joseph.
Fox Patrol – Backwoods cooking – Meeting at the Scout Hut, wear uniform.

An important message to parents & guardians
We encourage Scouts to show independence and be responsible for themselves wherever possible and appropriate. It is therefore really important that you encourage your youngster to read this update every week, so that they can ‘Be Prepared’ on their Troop Night. We greatly appreciate your support with this.

Other important information
It is important that everyone wears full and correct uniform. Please remember that the uniform rules are the same for both girls and boys. Black, dark grey or navy socks and black smart footwear are compulsory uniform wear for all Scouts. Please remember that uniform shirts must be worn tucked into trousers. Leggings or very tight trousers are not correct uniform.
Please make sure you wear a t-shirt under your uniform shirt. If you wish to change out of your uniform trousers after flag break then please make sure that you are wearing a pair of shorts under your uniform trousers and you bring some old trousers to change into.
If the footwear you are wearing with your uniform is unsuitable for activities then please bring along some more suitable footwear to change into after flag break.
Please make sure you bring a warm jumper, sweatshirt or similar with you to Scouts. You will also need a warm waterproof coat. We may be working outdoors and you will need to stay warm and comfortable. You might find a warm hat and a pair of gloves handy as well. Even if we are indoors it may be colder than normal as at times we need to have the outside doors open to improve ventilation because of Covid. Apart from Flagbreak and Flagdown, Scouts are welcome to wear their warm clothes over their uniform whether indoors or outdoors.
Don’t forget to bring along a bottle filled with water or a suitable non-fizzy drink.
You need to bring along a backpack to put your drinks bottle, warm clothes and similar in.
Please remember that mobile phones are not allowed at Scouts. It is best that you leave your mobile at home. If you feel you must bring your mobile with you it must be turned off and put in your bag or daysac, as soon as you come through the gate. It must remain in your bag until you have gone through the gate at the end of the night.

This week at Explorers we are going to be meeting at 5 Ways Lakes at 18:00 until 20:30 and we’ll be meeting with Nuneaton District Explorers for a BBQ cooking challenge!
