Tesco teamed up with Groundwork to launch its community funding scheme, which sees grants of up to £4,000, £2,000 and £1,000 – all raised from carrier bag sales in Tesco stores – being awarded to local community projects.
The scheme
Bags of Help offers community groups and projects across the UK a share of revenue generated from carrier bag sales in Tesco store. The public will now vote in store during March and April on who should receive the awards.
Tesco’s Bags of Help project has already delivered over £43 million to more than 10,000 projects up and down the UK. Tesco customers get the chance to vote for three different groups every time they shop. Every other month, when votes are collected, three groups in each of Tesco’s regions will be awarded funding.

Funding is available to community groups and charities looking to fund local projects that bring benefits to communities. Anyone can nominate a project and organisations can apply online.
Three groups in every Tesco region have been shortlisted to receive the cash award and shoppers are being invited to head along to Tesco stores to vote for who they think should take away the top grant.

Our bid
1st Bedworth Scout Group continues to grow in membership, now having over 200 youth members from a wide variety of backgrounds who attend weekly Beaver, Cub, Scout & Explorer meetings.
Scouting exists to actively engage and support young people in their personal development, empowering them to make a positive contribution to society. From basic outdoor activities, backwoods cooking, camping to adventurous activities such as climbing, archery, canoeing we like to offer all children the opportunity to engage in our Scout Group.
We are applying for a Bags of Help grant to purchase additional equipment to cope with our growth in numbers and also replace some of our worn out equipment. We would like to enable more young people to take part in camping trips and are therefore looking to purchase new tents, a camping fridge and fire lighting equipment. Much of our camping equipment is very old and in need of updating and replacing to be fit for purpose.
This will allow us to continue providing lots of different activities and outdoor adventures to enable us to develop our young people in line with Scouting Core values:
Integrity – We act with integrity; we are honest, trustworthy and loyal.
Respect – We have self-respect and respect for others.
Care – We support others and take care of the world in which we live.
Belief – We explore our faiths, beliefs and attitudes.
Cooperation – We make a positive difference; we cooperate with others and make friends.
In doing all of the above our young people will develop good community citizenship and values, allowing them to make a positive contribution to community throughout their life.

How to vote
To vote, you will need to make a purchase within the store of any value. You will receive one token per transaction and it’s not necessary to purchase a carrier bag in order to receive a token.
If you’re not given a token then don’t forget to ask for it!
On the way out of the store there will be an area outlining the three projects currently bidding for your vote and you simply drop your token into the project you would like to vote for.
